Pixie Cuts, Purpose, and the Long Road to Becoming Who I Was Always Meant to Be

I didn’t come to hair by accident.

Hair came to me early long before I fully understood what it would become in my life.

I started doing hair at 14 years old, working inside an African braiding salon. Back then, in the early 90s, salons didn’t look the way they do now. You didn’t just “start at the bottom” there was no bottom for someone my age. I was too young to even be a shampoo girl, which is what we called it back then. But I was determined. I watched. I listened. I learned with my hands, my eyes, and my heart.

That early exposure taught me something powerful:

Hair was never just hair.

It was culture. Identity. Survival. Expression.

Choosing Hair Before I Chose Myself

As I got older, my passion became clearer. I was accepted into BOK Vocational High School, where I studied cosmetology while completing high school. I graduated with my required hours proud, capable, and skilled but not yet licensed.

And here’s where my journey gets honest.

I was afraid of the state board exam.

Fear kept me from taking the test. And because I wasn’t licensed, I couldn’t work in top professional salons. I couldn’t move the way my talent deserved.

Instead of pushing forward, I stalled my own growth.

During that time, I still did hair shows. I competed. I won numerous awards. On the outside, it looked like success but internally, I wasn’t taking my gift seriously. I was talented, but not yet disciplined. Skilled, but not yet grounded.

Looking back, I can say this clearly:

I limited myself early on not because I lacked ability, but because I lacked belief.

Losing My Way to Find My Calling

Eventually, life pulled me in a different direction. I went to New York to study fashion design, believing creativity alone was enough to guide me.

But something was missing.

I realized my heart didn’t live in garments or runways.

It lived in women.

In their stories.

In their transitions.

In their quiet moments of becoming.

I understood then that hair was my true calling not because I could style it, but because I knew how to communicate with women in a way that changed how they saw themselves.

That’s when everything shifted.

Taking My Craft and Myself Seriously

Once I committed fully to hair, I committed to growth. I stopped treating my talent casually and began treating it with respect.

I leaned into what I had always been good at: cutting.

At the time, short hair was not popular. Pixie cuts weren’t celebrated. They weren’t trending. They weren’t “safe.” But I knew something others didn’t yet see there were women ready to feel liberated.

So instead of harsh lines and rigid shapes, I softened the approach.

I made short hair feminine, intentional, and stylish.

I designed pixie cuts that honored bone structure, texture, lifestyle, and emotional readiness.

Slowly, an audience found me.

Women who didn’t want to hide anymore.

Women ready to reinvent themselves.

That’s when I learned a truth I still live by:

If you work at something long enough, with intention and integrity, you don’t just become great you find your people.

Why I Do What I Do Today

Today, my work is rooted in wellness-informed precision cutting.

Especially for women experiencing hair loss, thinning hair, or major life transitions.

This isn’t about trends.

It’s about seeing women clearly and reflecting that beauty back to them.

I believe hair can be a mirror.

I believe reinvention is sacred.

And I believe women deserve to feel whole, powerful, and beautiful even in their hardest seasons.

I’m Glad You’re Here

If you’re reading this, you’re not here by accident.

This space is for:

  • Women reinventing themselves

  • Women finding themselves again

  • Women walking through the hardest parts of their lives and still choosing to rise

No matter where you are in your journey, one thing is always true:

You are still beautiful.

You are still becoming.

And you are still worthy of being seen.

I’m honored to be part of your journey.

Welcome. 🤍
